what we believe

We're not a complicated church. We preach Jesus, we teach the Bible, we make disciples, and we expect people to Leave Changed.

What follows is what we stand on, written out plainly so nothing about us is a surprise. It is not a test at the door. You don't have to agree with every line on this page to sit in this room, take a seat next to somebody, and hear the Word for yourself.

We'd rather you come and wrestle with it than stay home and wonder. Changing hearts and minds was never our job anyway — that's God's work, and He's better at it than we are.

 

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God — every book, every word, given by God through men He carried along by His Spirit. It is true, it is authoritative, and it is enough. We don't preach around it, soften it, or add to it. When Scripture and opinion disagree, Scripture wins.

God

We believe there is one God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is holy, sovereign, and good. He made everything that exists, He sustains it, and He is not distant from it.

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man — conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, and without sin. He lived the life we couldn't live, died the death we deserved, and rose bodily from the grave on the third day. He ascended to the Father, He intercedes for us now, and He is coming back. There is no salvation in any other name.

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, brings people to new birth, and lives inside every believer. He is not an influence or a feeling — He is God, and He gives real power for real life. He gifts the Church for ministry, and we expect Him to work when we gather.

People and Sin

We believe every human being is made in the image of God, with dignity that no circumstance can cancel. We also believe every one of us has sinned and fallen short of His glory. Sin isn't a mistake to manage; it's a debt we can't pay, and it separates us from God.

Salvation

We believe salvation is a gift — by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, and not by anything we earned. We are covered by the blood of Jesus. His death paid a debt we could never pay, and there is no second source of forgiveness and no backup plan: it is by Christ, and Christ alone. Salvation comes through repentance and belief — turning from sin and trusting Him as Savior and Lord. You don't clean yourself up to come to God. You come to God, and He changes you.

Saved, and Following

We believe being saved is the beginning of following, not the end of it. Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commandments," and "You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you." He tied love to obedience Himself. We're not going to untie what He tied — to refuse His teaching is to refuse His friendship.

Scripture describes this as a marriage, and a marriage runs both ways. He gave Himself for us; we give ourselves to Him. So we don't preach a salvation that asks nothing of you, and we don't preach a salvation you can earn. We preach the one Jesus actually described: He saves you, and you follow Him.

Faith without works is dead. A changed heart shows up in a changed calendar, a changed wallet, and a changed way of treating people. That's why we don't measure a disciple by attendance. We measure by whether they follow, fellowship, are formed, fight, and finish.

And to be clear about what this is not: it is not about stumbling. Every believer here fails, repents, and gets back up — that is the Christian life, and grace is exactly what it's for. It's about direction. Someone who decides they no longer want to love or obey God has walked out of the relationship, and Paul says plainly that a life handed back over to sin is not the life of someone who has been raised with Christ.

Baptism and Communion

We believe baptism is for those who have put their faith in Christ — a public burial of the old life and a declaration of the new one. We believe the Lord's Supper is a remembrance of His body and blood, taken with reverence and self-examination, until He comes.

The Church

We believe the Church is not a building, a brand, or a broadcast. It's the body of Christ — people who gather, teach, break bread, pray, give, and hold one another accountable. We believe in showing up in person, in submitting to godly leadership, and in refusing to do the Christian life alone.

We also believe the Church isn't called to entertain culture. It's called to proclaim Christ, confront darkness, disciple believers, and demonstrate the power of the Holy Spirit.

Marriage

We believe marriage is a covenant between one man and one woman, established by God at creation. God made them male and female, and He said a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.

Jesus affirmed it Himself. When He was questioned about divorce, He went straight back to the beginning — "he who made them from the beginning made them male and female" — and He spoke of husband and wife in exactly those terms. What God has joined together, let no man separate.

We also believe marriage is a picture of something larger than itself: Christ and His Church, the same covenant we describe above. That's why we hold it with the weight we do, and why we take covenant-keeping seriously inside these walls.

The Mission

We believe the Great Commission is an assignment, not a suggestion. We're sent to make disciples — and we're sent to the widow, the orphan, the hungry, the addicted, and the incarcerated. Pure religion visits people in their trouble. That's why our doors, our food, and our help go out into 78211 and not just to the people already inside.

What's Coming

We believe Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly. There will be a resurrection, a judgment, and an eternity — and God will make all things new, wiping every tear from the eyes of His people. We live now in light of that day.

What this means when you walk in

You'll hear the Bible preached, not a self-help talk with a verse attached. You'll be welcomed as you are — and you won't be left as you are. You'll be asked to do something with what you heard before you get home. And if we've done our job, you'll Leave Changed.

 

Come anyway

If you read all of that and found something you're not sure you believe yet, come anyway. Sit down. Ask hard questions. Bring your doubts through the door with you — this room has held plenty of them.

We're not here to argue anybody into the Kingdom, and we've never once changed a heart on our own. That's God's work. Ours is to preach Christ honestly, love people genuinely, and leave the rest to Him.
