Are You Washed In The Blood Of The Lamb?

A song that is a staple in old American churches that have a traditional background is Are You Washed in The Blood. This song still moves me deeply to this day.

Are you? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

The most pending question on many devout Christians mind and tongue normally is “Am I saved”. You would think that after years of serving God, loving Jesus, feeding the hungry, helping the widows, assisting the poor and downtrodden and avoiding the sins of the flesh that someone like this would know without a doubt that they are saved, yet in church when they call new converts to recite the sinners prayer, I cannot help but to see many of the tried and true, battle-tested and card carrying elders in the front of the church mouthing the words alongside the sinners and in those moments I realize that I am also at the front mouthing the words too and it is simply because at the end of the day somewhere deep inside I still feel like I have missed the mark. Assurance in the gospel isn’t feeling like you’ve arrived at salvation it is constantly knowing that God’s grace is the only thing that saves you and the closer you get to Jesus the more inadequate and undeserving you often feel. This leads me to personally believe that those people who feel righteous and justified either really are righteous and justified or have not met the all-powerful perfect Jesus.

Jesus Calls Levi (Matthew): Luke 5

Jesus says I did not come to save those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent (which is to do a 180 and turn away and walk away from all sin). Jesus assures us here that He came to save those who know they need Him and when you walk alongside Jesus and grow the relationship by reading His word daily and loving the less fortunate you realize that you are inadequate. Jesus asks us to help the poor and in need and to use our entire life to do so and not because that helping will clean our souls but because that’s what our job would be even if we did not need saving. If my job was as a painter, I would come to work to paint. If the boss says, “hey I have an extra sandwich, you can have it for lunch” that would be great, but I did not come to work for the sandwich I came to work to paint and the sandwich was given freely because I happen to be at the right place at the right time. The word says…

Be Ready for the Lord’s Coming: Luke 12

The place is standing under the banner of the blood of Jesus, the right time is now and your job is to help others and in the process, God will give you grace and mercy and love. You’re not working for the grace and mercy and love, you’re working because it is your job, but since God has more than enough sandwiches (Forgiveness and Salvation) to go around you get an abundance of that too. You do not work for salvation, you get salvation freely because you believe Jesus is the son of God and died on the cross, BUT since you believe Jesus is the son of God and died on the cross, then that makes Him your BOSS. And your BOSS said that your job title is SERVANT and your JOB DESCRIPTION is as follows…

Servant will be responsible for loving those that hate him and being humble during the process. Giving money that servant has for himself and family to another in a more desperate situation. Servant’s hours should be flexible as servant may be called into work at inconvenient times and hours and off days including holidays and vacations not to exclude private family moments. Servant is required to lose friends and family members in pursuit of living righteous and preaching the gospel of Jesus and the cross. Servant is required to repent of any and all sins confessing them to Jehovah God and asking for forgiveness in the blood of Jesus. Be warned that any attempt by servant to save his life, free time, money or any form of pleasure will result in immediate termination. If servant wishes to save his life, he must first lose it by means of spending it serving God.
