Life Motto: It's All Good

I was speaking with someone this morning about life, and we both concluded that, in the end, it’s all good. Regardless of whether storms come, people turn against us, we get married or stay single—whatever happens in life—it’s all good. It’s not about the storms; it’s about having peace, and peace is determined by Jesus.

For example, if I believe Paul when he says:

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” — Romans 8:28

then I realize it really doesn’t matter what life throws at me, because in the end it will work out in my favor.

A buddy of mine told me yesterday how his father-in-law hates him, and how that made it hard to love his wife’s family. I reminded him that without his father-in-law and mother-in-law, he wouldn’t have his wife and child. Peace comes from perspective. He can focus on the hate—or on the blessing that came through his in-laws’ existence. One choice leads to resentment, the other to gratitude. When we live with gratitude and joy, peace becomes inescapable. Seeking the heart of God first leads us to joy, peace, forgiveness, and love—so it really is all good. As Jesus says:

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” — Matthew 6:33

When you put Jesus’ words in Matthew alongside Paul’s in Romans, you begin to see life with a new set of eyes. If you lose a family member, a job, land, property, a marriage, a scholarship, an award—whatever—and you are living for God, then you know that loss will be used to set you up for something greater. This helps explain what James writes:

“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” — James 1:2–4

Word Today family, remember: in Christ we need nothing, so everything we have is a blessing. If we’re blessed with everything we ever wanted, we must adopt the attitude, “No biggie—it’s all good,” or else we’ll be devastated by even the smallest loss. And if everything is taken away, we can still say, “It’s all good,” because James tells us that loss produces maturity; once mature, we “need nothing.” That’s when we truly understand that the one thing we need for peace and joy can never be taken away—and that one thing is Jesus.
