The Triumphal Entry

John 12 NASB: The large crowd of the Jews then learned that He was there; and they came, not on account of Jesus only, but so that they might also see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also, 11 because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus.

12 On the next day, when the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, indeed, the King of Israel!”

Jesus' Declaration

Matthew 23 NASB: 37“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. 38Behold, your house is being left to you desolate! 39For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until you say, ‘BLESSED IS THE ONE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!’”

The Coming Messiah: the Righteous Branch

Jeremiah 22 NASB:

23 “Woe to the shepherds who are causing the sheep of My pasture to perish and are scattering them!” declares the Lord. Therefore this is what the Lord, the God of Israel says concerning the shepherds who are [j]tending My people: “You have scattered My flock and driven them away, and have not been concerned about them; behold, I am going to call you to account for the evil of your deeds,” declares the Lord. “Then I Myself will gather the remnant of My flock out of all the countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their pasture, and they will be fruitful and multiply. I will also raise up shepherds over them and they will [k]tend them; and they will not be afraid any longer, nor be terrified, nor will any be missing,” declares the Lord.

“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord,“When I will raise up for David a righteous [l]Branch;And He will reign as king and [m]act wiselyAnd do justice and righteousness in the land.In His days Judah will be saved,And Israel will live securely;And this is His name by which He will be called,‘The Lord Our Righteousness.’

“Therefore behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when they will no longer say, ‘As the Lord lives, who brought the sons of Israel up from the land of Egypt,’ but, ‘As the Lord lives, who brought up and led the descendants of the household of Israel back from the north land and from all the countries where I had driven them.’ Then they will live on their own soil.”

David's Declaration

Psalm 118 NASB: 19Open the gates of righteousness to me;

I will enter through them, I will give thanks to the LORD.

20This is the gate of the LORD;

The righteous will enter through it.

21I will give thanks to You, for You have answered me,

And You have become my salvation.

22A stone which the builders rejected

Has become the [i]chief cornerstone.

23This came about from the LORD;

It is marvelous in our eyes.

24This is the day which the LORD has made;

Let’s rejoice and be glad in it.

25Please, O LORD, do save us;

Please, O LORD, do send prosperity!

26Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD;

We have blessed you from the house of the LORD.

27The LORD is God, and He has given us light;

Bind the festival sacrifice [j]to the horns of the altar with cords.

28You are my God, and I give thanks to You;

You are my God, I exalt You.

29Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;

For His mercy is everlasting.
